"Welcome
to the River that is known to us as Reiki!!! It
is my joy and honor to initiate others into this wonderful healing method that
has encircled the globe by the millions.
We
don't know how this healing method works or what energies direct the healing but
we do know that this method is one of Love and Light and Harmony. I pledge to you my time, commitment, and respect as you start your journey on the Reiki path. Please call upon me to clarify any concerns you have, to encourage your practice, and to help you step forward as the magnificent Being of Love and Light that you truly Are." Reiki is a gentle healing alternative often used for stress release, relaxation, and wellness. It is a gentle, safe, and non-invasive method. What
is Reiki? Reiki is a healing method that is both
hands-on (Reiki 1) and also able to be sent to distant situations and people
(Reiki 2). It is
unique among healing methods today as it involves 1) learning symbols to enhance
healing, 2) an attunement process between
someone who is trained to initiate others (Reiki Master) and a student, and, 3),
it does not involve any personal energy for the healing to occur. Reiki is a Japanese name which is
pronounced 'RAY
key'. It translates to
universal life force energy. 'Rei'
signifies the universal source energy flowing through everything.
This source energy is seen as innately intelligent.
'Ki' signifies the personal life force energy and is analogous to Chi
in Chinese and prana in Indian systems.
Thus, Reiki implies that the universal source channel is directly
connecting to our personal life force and thus intelligent healing energy surges
forth.
There are many forms of hands-on
healing including spiritual laying on of hands occurring in religious
communities, therapeutic touch founded by an American nurse and used by many
health practitioners, and spontaneous healings by touch to loved ones (like Moms
kissing pain away). Stories abound
of the survival need for touch with infants, both human and animal.
People wither and die without it. Yet Reiki is much more than conscious,
physical touch. It allows one to
step into a moving river of energy into which saints and sages, healers, and
masters have waded, healing themselves and others.
Mikao Usui, originating Reiki almost 100 years ago, had these words to say in his Reiki Manual: "I've
never been given this method by anybody nor studied to get
psychic power to heal. I
accidentally realized that I have received healing power when I felt the air in
a mysterious way during fasting. So I have a hard time explaining it even though
I am the founder." Clairvoyants who use this method have
described seeing white light coming down thru the top of the Reiki healer's head
(the crown chakra) and going down to the heart and then out the arms and hands.
In William Rand's book, The Healing Touch: Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 Manual,
there is an interesting photograph of a hand just before and after Reiki
is being sent. The process, known
as Kirlian photography, is thought to capture the electrical imprint of an
object. In this series of
photographs, after the person intends to send Reiki, white light appears in the
palm and shoots out near the index finger.
It is important to remember that you do
not take in the other person's symptoms in order to heal them.
You are there as an open and conscious channel of universal life force
energy, like a straw which is open to draw down healing energy. Besides from heat, the most reported
feelings from a Reiki session which I have found are deep feelings of love,
compassion, relaxation, and often relief of physical or emotional pain.
Reiki is extremely simple to learn and
is extremely simple to do. Which
are two of the benefits of this wonderful healing tool.
Anyone can do it. Children as young as five can be
attuned to Reiki 1. Children should
be much older, preferably in their teens, before they receive Reiki 2, as the
implications for sending energy are more complex than simply putting one's hands
on someone else for healing. Chronically ill people as well as many
dying people are also receiving Reiki training.
Reiki addresses concerns on all levels - physical, emotional, mental and
spiritual and therefore is a benefit to all.
People:
Anybody can receive Reiki.
Babies in the womb. Your
grandmother. People in a coma (see
the section under ethics for considerations).
People you read about in the newspaper who have been touched by trauma
(with Reiki 2 and again be conscious of the ethics involved).
Animals: I have heard stories of dogs' lives
being extended by years with consistent Reiki.
Some authors swear that cats are Reiki Masters and that Reiki (along with
cats) has descended down to us from Egyptian times.
This gives us a good understanding of the differences between cat and dog
lovers :-) . I have lived with both
cats and dogs and find that my cats do sometimes jump on the table to get Reiki
with clients but I couldn't swear that they are giving it as well. Plants: Finding parking spaces or moving traffic along: Objects: Food: Clearing /Cleansing your house: Crisis Situations: Abundance: Creativity and special projects: Crystals: Achieving goals or breaking habits: As you can see, the possibilities are
endless!
Some reasons people have Reiki treatments:
It can be as simple as taking a quick
breath, rubbing your hands together for a moment to put your consciousness in
your hands, intend for the healing energies to come and voila!
You are doing Reiki. On the other hand, more people than
not, including those who claim no religious background of any kind, often state
that they feel, see, or otherwise intuit the presence of Beings in the room. Oftentimes, the client will report (and I have had this
experience many times) that they feel the presence of one or more sets of hands
on them while someone is doing Reiki. Your
client might report that their Mother or an Angel appeared to them or that they
got a message while getting a treatment. Most times it is the Reiki practitioner
who begins to sense the Presence of Others who come to help with the healing.
This is more pronounced when you begin your practice by consciously
calling in Reiki Guides and Higher Energies of love and light, angels and
archangels, or others. Most times, even when practitioners are
not of the corresponding faith, many Reiki practitioners feel the presence of
Jesus, Mary, Kuan Kin, the Chinese
Goddess of Compassion, Shiva, St.
Germaine, Archangels Michael,
Raphael, and Gabriel, and various Bodhisattvas.
Those who are clairvoyant report seeing
the room filled with Guides; clairaudients report hearing tones or messages; the
majority of healers are clairsentient which is a more subtle, less glamorous
gift but one that most easily incorporates into the healing experience for the
client. Classes are regularly offered in the Portland area (see below) Many describe Reiki as a gentle warmth permeating an area, feelings of release, and love. Reiki Healing is a "hands-on" healing technique or a distance healing alternative. Reiki is a Japanese word which translates to "spiritually guided life force energy". Through this simple method of healing, you are able to feel this healing energy yourself or send it to others. For more on the origins of Reiki, click here.
